Global: Global downturn cushioned peak oil impact

One of the Federal Government's top infrastructure advisers is warning of an oil crunch that could send the global economy spiralling back toward recession.

Curtin University Professor Peter Newman sits on the Government's Infrastructure Australia Council and says peak oil - when demand outstrips dwindling supply - has already hit but that the global downturn has kept prices low.

The fuel shortage in the capital of the Bandama valley has prompted retailers to raise prices, which in a few days, went from 600 to 1,500 CFA francs per liter.

Fuel prices at the pump are soaring since the beginning. This is following the gas shortage faced the past three days, users of the city center. Tuesday early evening, almost all gas stations, dry for days, were awaiting the precious liquid.

Pakistan: Power shortfall nears 4000MW

Despite several new energy conservation initiatives taken by the government in a bid to reduce prolong power outages, no significant change has been witnessed anywhere in the country.

While the power shortfall also continues to linger around 4000MW.

According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), current electricity generation in the country is 10703MW against the overall demand of 14694MW.

Eight to 12 hours of power cuts are being observed in almost all parts of the country, according to media reports.

Nigeria: Nigeria oil rebel faction claims attacks in delta

A Nigerian militant group claimed on Friday to have blown up two key pieces of oil infrastructure and a gas pipeline in the Niger Delta this week, but there was no independent confirmation of any such attacks.

The Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC), a coalition of ex-militants and community leaders, said it had blown up Royal Dutch Shell's Tura manifold connected to the Bonny export terminal in the early hours of Wednesday.
